Romas Yakov Dorofeevich (1902–1969)
Romas was a soviet painter and one of the pioneers of Soviet design. Romas was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR since 1958. He was awarded the People’s Artist of the USSR in 1965, and was the chief artist of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in 1950-1954. Romas studied at the Moscow’s VKhuTeMas – VKhUTeIN from 1924 until 1930. Romas’ typical paintings were landscape compositions, in which a theme of big water prevailed. For his painting “On the rafts”, 1947, represented in The State Tretyakov Gallery collection in Moscow, was awarded the State Prize of USSR in 1948. Romas’ works are represented at the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, and at many regional museums of the former USSR.
