Krylov Porfiry Nikitch
A Soviet painter and graphic. Member of a unique art trio Kukrynicksy (together with Mikhail Kupriyanov and Nickolay Sokolov) – a significant event of Socrealism.
Studied at the art studio in Tula (1918-1921) where his teacher was Grigory Shegal.
Later studied at Moscow VKhuTeMas-Vkhutein (1921-1928) where his teachers were Aleksander Osmerkin and Aleksander Shevchenko, and Petr Konchalovsky at his post-graduate course.
Together with Mikhail Kupriyanov and Nickolay Sokolov since 1924 worked in newspapers «Komsomolskaya pravda», «Literaturnaya gazeta», «Pravda», magazines «Prozhector», Krokodil», «Smekhach», «Smena», in the years of the Great Patriotic War – in «Okna TASS».
Krylov’s chamber landscapes and still-lives follow the traditions of “Russian impressionism” which originate from the art of Isaak Levitan and Konstantin Korovin.
An acting member of Academy of Arts of USSR (1947). People’s artist of USSR (1958). Winner of Lenin Prize (1965), Member of the Bureau of Academy of Arts of the USSR. Hero of Socialist Labour(1972).
His pictures are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), P.N. Krylov’s Museum in Tula and in Ufizzi Gallery in Florence.
