Kozlov Engels Vasilievich (1926-2007)
Prominent Russian artist. Active in Leningrad. Genre painter and portraitist. Born at the Troitsko-Pechorsk, North Russia. He studied at the Yaroslavl art school (1947-1949), at the Leningrad art and pedagogical school (1949-1950). In 1950-1956 at the Leningrad Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture named after I. E. Repin. Participant of art exhibitions since 1957. Since the same year a member of the Leningrad Union of Artists. The image of contemporary man is central for Kozlov’s work. An important theme of his work was the industrial development of Russian North. Merited artist of Russia (1978), People's artist of the Russia (1987). Kozlov’s paintings are preserved in the collection of the State Russian Museum and other major museums in Russia, and also in private collections abroad.
